The Saskatchewan Crop Organizations
Saskatchewan Barley Commission
SaskBarley is a producer-led organization established in 2013 to build a platform for growth in the province’s barley industry. Our refundable levy of $1.06 per tonne goes toward funding research, market development and promotion initiatives that will lead to improved barley varieties, enhanced marketability and higher value for producers. The commission is directed by a six-member Board representing approximately 7,000 barley producers in the province.
Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission
SaskCanola (Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission) is a producer led organization, established in 1991 and supported by some 26,000 levy-paying Saskatchewan canola producers.
Its mandate is to grow producer prosperity through advocacy, research, and market development. SaskCanola’s strategic direction is guided by an eight-member, producer-elected Board of Directors.
Saskatchewan Flax Development Commission
Saskatchewan Flax Development Commission (SaskFlax), established in 1996 represents nearly 5,000 registered producers in the province. Directed by a board of flax growers, the Commission operates via a mandatory but refundable levy on seed ($2.36 per tonne) and straw ($.50 per tonne). These dollars are leveraged whenever possible to execute programs ultimately geared to increase net returns to its producer members and advance Saskatchewan’s flax industry.
Research, market facilitation and communication programs revolve around the Commission’s pillars including variety development, agronomy, human health and wellness; animal health and performance and complete plant utilization.
Saskatchewan Oat Development Commission
The Saskatchewan Oat Development Commission (SaskOats) was established by the provincial government in 2006 to begin collecting a 50 cents per tonne levy on all Saskatchewan-grown oats marketed commercially.
SaskOats uses the producer funds for oat research and market development to enhance the profitability of oats for growers and increase its value to the customer.
The strategic priorities of SaskOats include research, market development; advocacy; building partnerships; and communication with oat growers, consumers, the oat industry, and governments.
Saskatchewan Pulse Growers
